The Salida City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on July 7 for a regular meeting to discuss an ordinance that would rezone a parcel of property owned by the City from Single-Family Residential District to Medium-Density Residential Districts.
As previously reported by Ark Valley Voice, on June 22 the Salida Planning Commission passed the recommendation to the City Council along with the vacation of a portion of East Crestone Avenue right-of-way at its intersection with West Third Street. The move is one of many steps underlying a workforce housing project proposed by Chaffee Housing Trust.
Vacation and rezoning have been a hot topic for many in the community. This will be the first reading of the ordinances. A motion to approve would pass these proposals to a second reading and a public hearing, with those actions tentatively scheduled for August 4, 2020.
The council will also discuss the city’s Communications Plan which will help community members to receive timely, consistent, and proactive communication with the City.
Also, on the agenda is a declaration of state of local emergency action plan implementation. The meeting will be held via GoToMeeting. To pre-register click here.
What does “vacation of a portion of East Crestone Avenue right-of-way at its intersection with West Third Street” actually mean? What is being vacated? some of us without a good understanding of zoning or other municipal laws would like to know.
Thx
Hi William,
Thanks for asking! It means that the city of Salida is giving up its right to continue to have a roadway on that portion of the road where it meets West Third Street, so it can become part of the neighboring parcel of land. This allows for there to be a large enough parcel for it to become a buildable lot.
