Salida City Council meets at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 2 to propose a new resolution covering the new scope of work descriptions for the mayor and mayor pro-tem. If approved, the resolution will rescind resolutions put forward in May of 2016 (Resolutions 2016-49 and 2016-50).

Staff updated the Salida City Council about updates to Colorado Statutes impacting elected official job descriptions during a July 1 work session.

At the time the Salida City Council approved Resolution 2016-49, it was acknowledged that “the Scope of Work for the Mayor can be modified at any time by the City Council of Salida to the extent that doing so is consistent with existing legal parameters or subject to any associated implementation needs”

Resolution 2016-50 was approved at the same time, outlining a Scope of Work for the Mayor Pro-Tem also stating “the Scope of Work for the Mayor Pro-Tempore can be modified … to the extent that doing so is consistent with existing legal parameters or subject to any associated implementation needs”

A Salida City Council work session held on Feb. 4, 2019, charged city staff with the work to clean out documents that are duplicated and unnecessary. The guiding reference while the City of Salida refers to the Colorado Revised Statutes and Salida Municipal Code.

The staff presentation on their review pointed out that the Colorado Revised Statutes renders the city’s 2016 resolutions redundant, with the statutes already providing guidance on the roles and responsibilities of elected officials for statutory municipalities, along with the provisions of the Salida Municipal Code.
