Beginning at 10 a.m. on May 23, Salida High School will sponsor a Senior Graduation Parade to honor the 2020 graduates. This year, 74 seniors will be graduating.

Seniors are asked to arrive promptly at 9:30 a.m. and join the line of vehicles and bicycles on the street between the Middle and High school facing towards Patio Pancakes and Wallbangers Sports Bar & Grill.

The parade will begin at Salida High School. The community and fellow students are encouraged to place themselves along the parade route (properly social-distanced) to celebrate and congratulate the graduating seniors.

Salida High School Senior Elise Mishmash explained to Ark Valley Voice “On Saturday, May 23rd we have a senior parade around town. We can decorate our cars and drive in the parade, or bike. Our advisors also have gotten banners for every senior. The banners have been hung all over town on light poles.

The parade is just one of many actions being taken by Salida High School and the parents of graduates to honor students in a highly unusual graduation year due to the coronavirus known as COVID-19.

“Our parents organized senior houses to be decorated as well as banners to be hung on our houses,” added Mishmash.” I currently have a huge banner with one of my senior pictures on my house.”

Mishmash went on to say “I think they have made a good effort to do things for us. I really hope we can do an in-person graduation, but if we don’t, I guess that’s the way it is. I hope the parade turns out good as well.”

In person graduation has been tentatively moved to Saturday, July 18.
