The City of Salida’s planning staff, working with consultants Clarion and Associates, are holding a public meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm Monday, February 27 at the Salida SteamPlant, 220 West Sackett Avenue.

Organizers will present Draft Installment #2 of the city’s Land Use Code rewrite, a process that “technically started in late 2019”, according to Community Development Director Bill Almquist.

“We got through Part One (“Administration and Procedures”), then COVID hit, the former community development person left, and then we had a lot of land use applications going,” said Almquist.

“We started getting back into it in 2021, when the housing crisis was becoming acute, and we’ve been picking up steam since the fall [of 2022],” added Almquist.

Part Two of the Land Use Code re-write deals with proposed zoning districts, and dimensional standards for structures, among other things.

In addition to the rewritten draft, the City will be presenting the Future Land Use Map (FLIM), which spells out which areas of the city will be devoted to which types of development.

The public meeting is one in a series of feedback sessions hosted by Almquist and the Planning Department. More information on the Land Use Code re-write can be found here.
