Salida is included with Glenwood Springs and Pagosa Springs in the ranks of great small communities combining winter skiing and local hot springs. Each town has a nearby ski area and one or more hot springs areas.

In the case of Glenwood Springs, it’s the boutique ski resort known as Sunlight Mountain Resort, where kids 12 and under ski free.

The area not only has the famed Glenwood Springs, but the nearby Iron Mountain Hot Springs and the Yampah Vapor Caves.

Pagosa Springs is hard by Wolf Creek Pass whose ski area was the first solar-powered ski area. It is known for the hospitality of The Springs Resort. It’s very name “Pagosah” was given to it by the Ute Indians, which in Ute means “healing waters.”
