It is that time of year again — as summer has finally arrived, Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) is asking for volunteers to help clean up Rainbow Trail.  The Rainbow Trail Maintenance is set for 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Saturday, June 4.

The cleanup will be followed by a lunch celebration of National Trails Day, with free lunch courtesy of event sponsors Sweetie’s Sandwich Shop and Soulcraft Brewing.

“In partnership with Central Colorado Mountain Riders (CCMR) and the U.S. Forest Service, Salida Ranger District, we’re hosting a special ShinDig to celebrate National Trails Day,” reads their invitation to volunteers.” join us for a day of shared stewardship on the iconic Rainbow Trail!”

Work will include improving drainage, restoring tread, and addressing issues stemming from the Decker fire and subsequent rainstorms. No experience is required.  Most of the work will be basic maintenance, with opportunities for minor rock and retaining wall work.  SMT will provide tools and training, plus transportation between the CR108 parking lot and worksite. The maintenance work will focus on the junction of CR108 and the Rainbow Trail.
