Due to the decreasing cases of COVID-19 in Chaffee County, increased capacity for testing and contact tracing, flattening the curve of infections and the “Protect Our Neighbors” order pending Governor Polis’s approval, the City of Salida is moving to Tier II of its COVID-19 Action Plan, effective June 22.

Under the Tier II approach, the City of Salida will be opening the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center to the public on a limited basis beginning June 22. The new rules can be found here. The Paquette Gallery at the Salida SteamPlant Event Center will also reopen on a limited basis beginning on June 22.

Mayor P.T. Wood said, “Salidans have gone to great lengths to limit the spread of COVID-19, and we can see how important it is to use all best practices as we slowly reopen our facilities.  Our case count has remained low over the past month due to our collective sacrifices, so it’s important to remain diligent to keep from having to close again.  It will be great to once again soak at the Hot Springs Aquatic Center and view some great art at the Paquette.  Let’s keep this going Salida.”

Salida City Council and the Planning Commission meetings will allow very limited in-person attendance for the purpose of conducting public hearings beginning June 22.

The City says that it strongly suggests citizens wishing to testify do so via the GoToWebinar platform or by letter or email. In-person testimonies will be allowed from one person at a time in the meeting room with a queue in the parking lot adjacent to the C street entrance of the Touber Building.

Anyone providing testimony must wear a mask and remain at least six feet away from others both while inside and outside the Council Chambers. Procedures for hearings can be found here.

The City is dedicated to continuing to work with the Chaffee County Public Health Department and the Board of County Commissioners on evaluating the COVID-19 pandemic and the City’s response.
