Salida police responded to a call for help from a resident of the Eastside Mobile Home Park on Oak Street in Salida around 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26. They transported him to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation.

“We got a report … around 12:55 p.m. that a man had called asking for help,” said Sgt. Spencer Blades, speaking from the Salida Police Department dispatch desk Sunday morning. “Four officers responded: Michael Travis, Harry Peele, Mark Willburn and C.J. Meseke.”

Blades said the man had a knife and loud music was blaring inside the residence, making it hard to get the man to listen. “He was clearly quite upset, with self-inflicted injuries. It became a verbal stand-off, the officer tasered him, then transported him for evaluation.”

“I want to commend the Salida Police Department for how they handled this … instead of firing weapons, they talked him down,” said Jim Miller, who owns the mobile home park.
