The Salida Public Art Commission held a Feb. 24 meeting to continue discussion surrounding a new project that is in its early planning phases. The commission has decided on a location (yet to be announced) and spent most of the meeting discussing possible ways to utilize the space, both as is and starting with a blank canvas.

Mayor P.T. Wood sat in on the meeting and made the point that “creativity is priority” when it comes to this project. Both Wood and the Salida City Council acknowledged the importance of art to Salida’s heritage and hope to use this theme as a guiding concept.

While discussing how to utilize the space, such words and themes as interactive, immersive, iconic and multigenerational were used. The excitement for the project was palpable and the team discussed everything from possibly fountains to the use of projectors. After discussing ideas for the space, the team decided the next step is to refine what they are looking for and define themes and intent. In April, they plan on meeting with City Council to discuss the project.
