The Salida School District has announced that will be on remote learning through Thursday, October 8, following the diagnosis on Monday of a positive student case and a staff member case. The district says they have planned and prepared for positive cases in the schools for months and have a strong response team composed of school leaders, nurses, medical community members as well as Public Health.

Since the case investigation and exposure notification is complex there will be times that the entire school district, schools, and classrooms must pivot to online learning until there is more knowledge about the risk of spread. Some or all will have to quarantine for the 14 days while others will not, depending on risk.

Some activities that students participate in appear to present a greater risk of spread such as riding the school bus, carpooling, and after-school activates which could impact the groups that are issued quarantine notices and those that are not.

As of 2:10 p.m., there are two cases, one student and one staff member, who have tested positive in the school district. The cases appear to be unrelated at this time. Additional information will be shared once it becomes available.

The Salida School District reminds the community and parents to download the school app as it is where Salida Schools communicates changes first. Click here to download the app for Android and here for iPhone.

Additional information is available in the parent letter from Chaffee County Health.
