The annual Salida Studio Tour, usually held at the end of September is canceled this year due to concerns over the coronavirus known as COVID-19.

The event allows different artists from all over Salida to open their studios to the public who may visit and learn about various artistic processes. This event lets the community see how different types of art is made and get up close and personal with it.

The show encompasses a ten-mile radius from F Street for the location of local studios.  This pushes people to explore new locations, such as a refurbished garage or building in the artists backyard.

“I like to think of it as a kind of a treasure hunt” local artist PJ Bergin told Ark Valley Voice.  The tour opens up what are often private spaces to the public to see where these artists work and create.

Addressing the tour’s cancellation Bergin said, “We’re very sorry that we’re having to cancel it for this year but feel like it’s the best thing for the community and the artists as well.”

“By April we’re out soliciting; we get a lot of financial support from the community. We felt it was unfair and put people on the spot to start asking for financial support when they’ve been closed for the past six weeks. It just didn’t seem like the right thing to do,” explained Bergin.

Though there will be no Salida Studio Tour in 2020, the customary exhibit of participating artist’s artwork will be on display in the reception area of Pinon Real Estate Group, located at 201 F Street in Salida.

“People can still come to Pinon and see the artwork they would have seen on the Studio tour this year and may still arrange to purchase something they like and get in touch with the artist” said Bergin.

The Exhibit will be shown and available for sale from September to December 2020. To view the art starting in September, visit Pinon Real Estate Group from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
