In mid-February, Salida Sunrise Rotary announced that it has awarded grants to six local nonprofits for its winter/spring 2022 community grant program.

With a long history of active involvement in the community, these grants support area projects and programs in the categories of youth, education and vocational projects; community service; and environmental programs.

Salida Sunrise Rotary is aware that local nonprofits have adjusted their programs to serve their clients and the community while meeting COVID-19 public health guidelines. Their continuing to support, through community grant funds, has been important support during a difficult few years.

This winter, Salida Sunrise Rotary Community Grants support the following nonprofits and their programs to provide meaningful experiences for our community:

Baba’s Magic Christmas: This Salida community tradition provided toys, clothing, food and more during Christmas to kids and families in our community who cannot afford much for themselves.

Truth Has a Voice Foundation: The organization will present a documentary on news and social media impacts to raise awareness and inspire discussion about the need for integrity in media and the role of misinformation. The film will be followed by a community discussion.

Ark Valley Helping Hands: The organization facilitates projects to help community members with their homes.

Theater in Non-Traditional Spaces (TINTS): Funds will support the production of “Mother: The Story of Mary Harris Jones” followed by discussions at Salida Middle School and Salida High School.

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity: The nonprofit will have an intern to learn about and support the organization’s housing program.

Boys & Girls Club of Chaffee County: Funds will go towards computers to support a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program focused on architecture and design.

Salida Sunrise Rotary raises funds through events and initiatives to provide grants through its Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Fund can also accept donations from anyone through its Colorado Gives page – on coloradogives.org, search on Salida Sunrise Rotary. This volunteer organization invites the community to check out its work to help them serve our community tomorrow.

One of the primary fundraisers that support these grants is the Chaffee Home & Garden Show, put on by Salida Sunrise Rotary. This year the show will be held April 2-3 at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Go to https://chaffeehomeandgarden.com/ for more details.
