Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), a department of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), is bringing their annual summit to Salida. The conference is slated for May 15 through May 17, with meetings on May 16 – 17.

“Colorado Creative Industries believes in the power of creativity to inspire human connections, create social change and support economic vibrancy throughout Colorado,” reads the CCI’s website. “We believe in the practice of creation, the artists and entrepreneurs who contribute to our rich culture and the benefits of our creative economy.”

More than 350 artists and creatives from around Colorado will converge on Salida for the summit, to be held at the Salida SteamPlant.

“We are encouraging attendees to get out and explore in their free time all the great things that downtown [Salida] has to offer.” wrote Salida Director of Arts and Culture, Michael Varnum, in a memo to the City.

Varnum and event organizers are encouraging summit guests to stay out late on the night of May 16. Varnum wants to highlight the wide variety of entertainment, arts, culture and dining offered in the heart of Salida.

“We hope that you will think ‘Late is Great’ by extending your normal business hours on [May 16].” requests Varnum. “We trust that you will want to show these guests that here in Salida we embrace the creative spirit of all.”

Conference attendees will be notified of extended hours in the time before the conference. On May 15, the summit’s first day, attendees will be notified once more and encouraged to explore downtown.

The summit will also feature an award ceremony highlighting the CCI’s 2019 Governors Creative Leadership award winners. The three winners, who have already been selected, will be gifted a work of art by Salida’s own Brice Turnbull. He was selected through a request for nominations and commissioned to create the award prizes.
