This morning, May 15, shortly before 8 a.m. the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office announced that today a specific area of U.S. 50 Monarch Pass, outside Maysville will be closed for an undetermined time, while investigators hone in on what they believed to be a personal item of Suzanne Morphew, missing since May 10.

The search continues for Morphew, who has not been seen or heard from since she left to take bike ride the afternoon of  Mothers’ Day. The search today will focus on a specific area just west of County Road 225 and Highway 50 (outside of Maysville).

On Friday, May 15, members of the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) plan to launch a comprehensive search of the area.

More than fifty searchers and investigators will comb the area in an effort to seek additional items or other clues that may identify the whereabouts of Ms. Morphew.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and its partners say they will work to ensure the roads are opened as quickly as possible to reduce the impact on drivers and those living in the area.

Over the past five days, more than 100 search personnel from Chaffee County Search and Rescue, Department of Corrections, and the Chaffee County Combined Tactical Team have scoured the area. The search has deployed numerous drones and eight different tracking and scent dogs from the Department of Corrections and the Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado.

Members from Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the South Ark Swiftwater Rescue Teams have searched area watersheds and Reach Air Ambulance has been called in to fly search missions as well.

The extensive search has not yet located Morphew. A dedicated tip line has been established by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations. That tip line number is 719-312-7530. Anyone with any information into the disappearance of Morphew is asked to call the tip line.
