Colorado Department of Transportation announces  US 285 Road Closure due to a semi rollover accident the morning of March 3 (Map Courtesy of CDOT)

An alert from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) was posted at 8:35 a.m. this morning, Tuesday March 3, announcing the road closure of US Highway 285 Southbound and Northbound Traffic at mile marker 119 due to a semi-truck rollover accident.

The announcement from CDOT said the semi-truck carrying livestock was flipped on its side and that the amount of time the road was estimated to be closed was still undetermined.

A later update from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office also alerted travelers this morning at 9:06 a.m. sharing on their Facebook, “Hwy 285 Poncha Pass is closed at this time, due to a semi crash. Road is expected to be closed for approximately 2 hours. Please find an alternate route. We will post as soon as the road is open.”

CDOT and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office both shared that they will provide updates as to when the road will operate as normal and travel alerts can be received by visiting COtrip.org.

NOTE: At 12:34 p.m. the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office posted the following update to their Facebook page, “Hwy 285 – Poncha Pass is now cleaned up and re-opened. Thank you for your cooperation. Safe travels.”
