For many, holiday shopping started early this year. Whether it’s due to COVID-19, extra free time, or the worry that stores will be shut down again, holiday shopping is stressful enough without added pressures.
Shopping at our local small businesses is a way to give back to the local economy but also a less stressful way to shop. Small stores know their inventory and provide a personal touch you can’t get at big box stores. If in-person shopping still seems daunting, the Chaffee County Visitors Bureau has made it even easier for you and your family to shop locally this year.
A gift that always seems to fit is a gift card.
Chaffee County Visitors Bureau has created an online shop including many of your favorite stores and retail sites throughout Chaffee County. This one-stop shop for gift cards allows you to mark everyone off your list without leaving your couch or putting on real pants.
An added benefit: 100 percent of the purchase goes back to the local business. Gift cards are sent out every Monday and Thursday and shipped directly to your door. Over 40 stores are available on the site, offering gift cards ranging from Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort to YogaTonic and even Soulcraft Brewing. Clothing, Toys, Food and much more offer something for every age and budget.

If that weren’t reason enough, according to Civic Economics – Andersonville Study of Retail Economics, when one spends $100 at a local business, $68 of that purchase will stay in the community.
On the flipside, when one spends $100 at a national chain only $43 stays in the community.
As claimed by Independent We Stand, shopping locally also creates jobs, is good for the environment, nurtures the local community, conserves tax dollars, invests in entrepreneurship and creates a destination.
