Plan now for the Third Annual Christmas Mountain Five Mile/One Mile Run on Friday, November 24

A great way to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend and the lighting of Christmas Mountain with friends and family starts at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 in Salida. This event is designed for all runners. All ages and abilities are encouraged to come out, breathe the fresh air and work off some of those holiday calories.

The race course is scenic and flat (around 160 feet of elevation gain) and takes place on city and county roads along gravel or concrete pedestrian paths. Packet pickup, post race drinks, snacks, and awards will all take place in Riverside Park at F Street and East Sackett Ave in Salida.

Race results will be found here throughout race day.

Registration is currently open, runners encouraged to sign up now

Event organizer Kristy Falcon told Ark Valley Voice that the roster of runners is growing and currently includes contestants ages 4 to 78.

While pre-registration is open through Thanksgiving Day, the online signup form states that the price for the Five Mile run increases after midnight on November 17, 2023 and pre-registration helps smooth out the process and starting time for everyone.

Those waiting until the last moment may still register on race day. “On race day, we can accept cash or check only. The current weather outlook calls for mixed sun and clouds with a high of 40 on race day – perfect for runners,” said Falcon.

“We’re also looking for a few more course marshals – it’s a great way to cheer the runners on,” added Falcon. To sponsor this event or to volunteer, please contact Kristy Falcon at christmasmountainrun@gmail.com.

One Mile fun run

The fun run begins at 10:05 a.m., right after the five mile race has started. This is a timed out-and-back run on Sackett Avenue, and all runners will receive a participant ribbon and post-race snacks. Parents are allowed to run with small children, even if they are not entered in the event.

Prize money will be offered to the Top Three Male and Female runners overall, along with the first place Male and Female masters runner (ages 40+).
