The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) Board of Directors election set for May 3 will see nearly a complete changeover.
The current five-person board has four members term-limited or not seeking re-election. The include chairperson Debbie Farrell, Dr. Harry Payton, and Tom Eve, all who will complete two terms on the board. Board member Jeff Post has served two years of the second three-year term and is not up for re-election. Current board member Dean Edwards was appointed in 2021 to complete the term of former member Jean Moltz.

Since 2020, legislation changed board terms to three years instead of four, and changed the special district elections from even-numbered years to odd-numbered years.

The candidates who filed for board candidacy by the Feb 25 deadline include five people vying for three open three-year terms; Dean Edwards, Bill Alderton, Rick Carroll, Dr. Lydia Segal, and Adam Martinez. One candidate is unopposed for the remaining one-year term; Susan Dunn.

Candidate backgrounds will be provided at a later date.

With past board guidance, HRRMC’s administration has spearheaded major growth in services and facilities in the past several years, including building a $10 million dollar Outpatient Pavilion, basing a REACH Air ambulance and hangar on the hospital campus and expanding clinical services in Buena Vista as well as to Saguache and Fremont Counties.
