This December 30 and 31, the Surf Hotel is hosting its inaugural music winter fest SnoDown NYE 2022 at the Ivy Ballroom and The Lawn. Finally, as we approach the end of 2022 this appears to be a year where it is safe to gather to celebrate together.
Billed as a family-friendly event, the festivities start at 9:00 p.m. December 30 with the electronic, saxophone-driven SoDown bringing the house down in the Ivy Ballroom. A mixture of dance club style electronica and thoughtful DJ compositions, SoDown is electronic music producer/DJ/saxophonist and Boulder, CO native Ehren River Wright.
Wright grew up listening to hip-hop, funk, soul, and reggae and draws his biggest inspirations from the likes of Parliament, The Meters, Method Man, Wu-tang Clan, James Brown, and fellow Colorado electronic giant Pretty Lights. Tickets are $35 and can be bought here.
The festivities continue on December 31 with the free “Lights in South Main: An Outdoor and Immersive Art Exhibition” featuring murals, large-scale projection mapping, and interactive light sculptures from all around the globe. Orchestrated by Brett Phares of LightStruct, a company known for one-of-a-kind, immersive, synthesized digital art projections, attendees will witness South Main in ways never seen before.
The celebration continues with local bluegrass legends Rapidgrass playing South Main’s first winter show on The Lawn. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Over the years, Rapidgrass has built a name for itself as one of the leading progressive newgrass outfits in Colorado and they are favorites here in the valley.
Continuously pushing the limits of what bluegrass can mean in the modern musical world, Rapidgrass mixes old and new styles into danceable and grin-inducing jams suitable for all ages. Hot toddies, warm fires, and glow sticks will help keep you warm while you boogie down for a bluegrass extravaganza not to be missed. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here.
After Rapidgrass heats up The Lawn, SoDown will return to the Ivy Ballroom for a New Year’s Eve throwdown that is not to be missed. Doors for the NYE show open at 10:00 p.m. and the show starts at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased here.
