The Order of the Sons of Italy Lodge #1309 is offering a $500 Scholarship available to a Salida High School Senior.

The organization offers the scholarship every spring to graduates of Salida High School or Horizons Exploratory Academy, to be used towards college or a trade/vocational school.  Students must be graduating this May 2021 and must be of Italian heritage.

The application process for the Sons of Italy Italian Heritage $500 Scholarship begins with this criteria:

  •  Student must be of Italian Descent
  • Applicant must be a Senior at a High School in Salida, CO, and must have at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Applicant must have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning or trade school
  • The deadline to apply is April 1, 2022

Applicant must provide the following information:

  1. Proof of a High School GPA of at least 2.5 GPA
  2. A letter of acceptance to an institution of higher learning or trade school
  3. One letter of recommendation from a teacher or community member
  4. A resumé of work/volunteering history, and academic pursuits
  5. A cover letter that includes:
  • Name, mailing address, contact phone, and email address
  • Explanation of their Italian Heritage.
  • A short statement explaining future plans post-graduation, what they plan on studying, and why they are the best candidate for the scholarship.

The applications will be picked up at the schools by a member of the Sons of Italy between April 8-18, 2022.  Students can also email mlpuj6@gmail.com directly with the documents.

Through the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF), and hundreds of thousands of family members located in all fifty states and the District of Columbia, the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA), throughout its thousands of local lodges, has awarded nearly $61 million in scholarships to date. The local lodge stems from Chaffee County’s rich Italian heritage.

A review committee will evaluate all applications and a winner will be chosen and contacted in May 2022.
