Tonight’s work session focuses on two separate reports that are nonetheless related when it comes to city planning.

First, Community Development Director Bill Almquist, along with consulting firm Studio Seed, will present findings from the South Arkansas Neighborhood Survey, the online companion to the South Ark Neighborhood Open House held on January 31.

The survey, which closed on February 15, measures community feeling about development plans for the 100-acre Vandaveer Ranch parcel south of Highway 50, and the report compares online survey results with results from Open House attendees. A comparison of the responses between the online survey and the open house responses reveals a noticeable gap in how the two respondent groups believed should be served by the project potential housing.

While online survey respondents thought the potential housing it could provide should serve families, singles and couples (perhaps indicating a higher number of workforce participants), the in-person survey indicated a higher wish for housing to serve the needs of seniors and “multi-generational families.”

The second presentation is the Parks and Recreation Annual Report, which will summarize 2022 activity as well as progress on the PROST (Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails) Master Plan, adopted in January 2020.
