Serial Testing:
The school district has decided to pause the required COVID-19 serial testing for students involved in athletics and activities at SHS and SMS. Serial testing was an effective strategy for early detection of COVID with the Delta variant, but officials say it is inconsistent in detecting the new Omicron variant within the first 48 hours of transmission. Serial testing may be a strategy that will be adopted again in the future, depending on future variants.
School district current strategy is for students who are symptomatic to wear a mask and check-in with nurse Becky at SHS or nurse Cari at SMS. This is “Day 0,” the first day of symptoms. It should be assumed this is a probable positive case.
Participants who do test positive for COVID, are to isolate for days 1-5. Then they can return to school on day 6, and they must wear a mask on days 6-10.
Upon returning to school on day 6, the student needs to check in with Eddie, school athletic trainer, for their return-to-play protocol.
All students, coaches, and staff must wear a mask on all bus trips. This is a federal regulation.
