Republican Linda Stanley has bested Democratic incumbent Kaitlin Turner in Tuesday’s race for 11th Judicial District Attorney.

With 60.53 percent of the vote on her side, Stanley picked up 31,555 votes to Turner’s 20,580. The 11th Judicial District consists of Fremont, Chaffee, Park, and Custer counties.

Chaffee County residents voted 6,735-6,339 in favor of Turner, who was appointed to office by Gov. Polis in June 2019. She replaced Molly Chilson, who retired from office. Turner was endorsed by sheriffs in Park, Custer and Fremont counties.

“I respect the voters’ decision,” Turner said Wednesday. “I wish the community the best.”

Stanley was born in Nebraska and raised in Iowa. She earned a BA in Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State College in Denver and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. She attended the University of Denver Sturm Law School, where she was President of the Criminal Law Association.

After law school, she worked from 2010-2016 as the Deputy District Attorney for the 10th Judicial District, then a year as the first Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Pueblo. She worked as a hearing officer for the State of Colorado from 2017 to January 2020.

“I am overwhelmed and humbled by the showing of support for my candidacy,” Stanley said.  “It was a hard fight fought and it will be a hard road ahead, but I’m confident the voters made the right decision after careful consideration of both candidates. It’s time to instill trust and confidence in the District Attorney’s Office and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
