The Chaffee County Fire Protection District, Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Chaffee County EMS and the Buena Vista Police Department all responded. Upon arrival, they found a single-family home engulfed in flames.

An adult male and a juvenile female were located who had escaped the home. They reported an adult female and juvenile male were still inside. Firefighters entered the home as the fire actively burned. The other two occupants were located and removed, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The adult male and juvenile female were transported to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and the adult male was airlifted to a regional burn center. The juvenile female was released to family members.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The identities of the survivors are also being held as investigators from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control were called to assist as to the cause and origin of the fire.

This remains an open investigation at this time.
