The Surf Hotel continues to bring entertainment to Buena Vista past the end of the regular tourist season with a roster of upcoming events. From 50 years of Hip Hop to Leadville Cherokee’s New Years Eve, residents and visitors should be able to find something to enjoy in the upcoming months.

50 Years of Hip Hop Party in the Ivy Ballroom

Saturday, November 4 in the Ivy Ballroom. The Box Office opens at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:00  p.m. and the show will start at 8:30p.m.

Tickets cost $40  and are available online here.

The event will feature BreakBeat Lou – Ultimate Breaks & Beats, The Reminders, and DJ Matt Cassidy.

“BreakBeat” Lou is a record collector, music lover, and historian. A Bronx native, Lou co-created Beat Records with the late Leonard “BreakBeat” Lenny Roberts, which released twenty-five compilation albums called “Ultimate Breaks and Beats” (UBB) from 1986 to 1991.

The Reminders blend soulful sounds and roots music with thoughtful lyrics. The group features Brussels-born emcee Big Samir and Queens-born emcee and vocalist Aja Black.

DJ Matt Cassidy has been circulating the Denver music scene for over twenty-four years. He is an eight times performing artist at the Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Wednesday, November 8. The Box Office opens at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will start at 8:00 p.m..

Tickets cost $40, with children aged twelve and under free. Tickets can be purchased online here.

Pink Talking Fish is a “Hybrid Tribute Fusion Act” that takes music from Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish to create something special for fans of the three iconic bands. This fusion of different sounds from the three bands sets them apart from the typical cover band.

Pink Talking Fish features bassist Eric Gould, keyboardist Richard James, drummer Zack Burwick, and guitarist Cal Kehoe.

Friday, November 17. The Box Office opens at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will start at 8:00 p.m..

Dragondeer is a Denver-based band that plays a blend of psychedelic blues, retro funk, soul, and rock-n-roll. Dragondeer has played at festivals like Electric Forrest, Firefly, and Telluride Blues and recently performed at Red Rocks with the Steve Miller Band.

Dragondeer have shared the stage with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Futurebirds, Neal Francis, Marcus King, The Revivalists, Shakey Graves, Dumpstaphunk, Drive By Truckers, and more.

Saturday, December 16. The Box Office opens at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will start at 8:00 p.m..

Son Little is a Grammy-winning American rhythm and blues artist, who offers a soulful sound that is both timeless and of the moment. He has been praised by American Songwriter as “one of the best songwriters working today.”

Son Little and his band, which features Little on vocals and guitar, drummer Steve McKie, and keyboard and bassist DeShawn Alexander, will tour North America for the first time through November and December.

Sunday, December 31. The Box Office opens at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:00 p.m. and the show will start at 9:00 p.m..

Leadville Cherokee is a high-energy Colorado rock band whose music is influenced by Ween, Paul Cauthen, The Steeldrivers, and Bill Withers. Their sound mixes elements of rock, funk, country, and crustpunk.

The band was formed in 2009 by guitarist Mark Nierneberger and Pete Albrect. They later added bassist Brian Carter and drummer Zack Kochetta.

They have been active in high country Colorado, playing a variety of whitewater festivals, such as the Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival, Paddlefest, and headlining FIBArk in 2021.

After their performance, attendees will ring in the new year with a champagne toast, balloon drop, and dance party with DJ Filfee.
