Volunteers will serve up Salida’s annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner from noon to 3 p.m. Thanksgiving day at the Boys and Girls Clubs Salida location, 340 E. Fifth St. behind St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

This popular community tradition includes a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pies donated by community members.

Volunteer coordinator Lu Valerio said everyone is invited to attend at no charge, but that donations to support the event will be accepted.

Anyone wishing to donate pies can drop them off until 1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Boys and Girls Clubs in the volunteer room, which will be marked, said Valerio.

Last year, she added, 700 people attended the community dinner. “This could not be done without our sponsors – Monarch Community Outreach, High Country Bank, Los Amigos service club and (St. Joseph’s) church. We also couldn’t do it without all of our volunteers. It’s a true community event.”
