As Salida prepares for the upcoming late autumn and winter season, the City coupled with local businesses are prepping to stay open through the cold. As previously reported by Ark Valley Voice, select blocks of F Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic through November 1 to allow social distancing Halloween celebrations.

The City is still in the planning stage of just what this will look like but Angel Rowell, president of the Salida Business Alliance told AVV “We’ve all learned a lot about what we need to do to pivot and the City and Salida Business Alliance are committed to working together to help support our small businesses. We’re currently working with the Chaffee County Small Business Coalition to come up with resources and options for help support businesses as we move into Winter.”

City Administrator Drew Nelson said during the October 15 Salida Business Alliance meeting “If business want to continue to extend their premises out into the parking spaces in front of their business, they can apply for that. That includes liquor sales as well. The state has continued that program so we’ll continue with it too, but I think that people need to realize that they will have traffic adjacent to them.”

Nelson went on to explain “I did meet with Lori [Roberts, Salida Chamber of Commerce] and Angel earlier this week about some possibility of using CARES Act dollars to help reimburse people who are making some improvements they made need to make it through some of the winter months, whether it’s tents and heaters or maybe there’s some alternatives to that, indoor air purifiers; things like that that could help keep your business open and make you feel safe. As safe as we can feel during this time. That dialogue is continuing, and we hope to have something out to folks in the next few weeks.”
