On Sunday, June 20, a FIBArk crowd-favorite  — an adorable group of dogs and enthusiastic owners — put on a show for the large crowds in the Salida Whitewater Park.

The Crazy River Dog Competition is a staple of FIBArk Sunday, providing relaxed and cute fun offering a change of pace from the competitive river events.

The competition played out in three rounds, two prelims, and a final. Each dog got at least two chances to show off their aptitude, or lack thereof, for river fetch.

Coming in third place at 19 seconds for a full lap was Dalvik, a three-year-old golden retriever belonging to Alex Markovich. Dalvik was a strong swimmer and proved to be a contender in the final round.

Second place, clocking in at 18 seconds, was awarded to Tallulah, the two-year-old “super mutt” belonging to Sarah Garrity and Scott Downes. Talula’s powerful legs and extensive stride made her a force to be reckoned with both on land and in the water.

2021’s craziest river dog was Clifford, who came in first, taking only 17 seconds to retrieve his toy.

The four-and-a-half-year-old mix belonging to Karen Fortier swam like a bullet and brought the toy back to shore with an efficiency that no other dog could match.

Although not the biggest or rowdiest dog Clifford’s spirit and determination awarded him the victory.
