Thursday, July 23 was Buena Vista Police Chief Jimmy Tidwell’s final sign-off when he called “off-duty”, and the community said thank you with a police procession. Tidwell has been described as the classic community police chief, well-loved all across the community.

Tidwell spent 34 years with the department and was surrounded by friends and family and many in Chaffee County emergency services. His son, Westminster Police Officer Logan Tidwell, answered his final sign-off, and the BV Police Department headed down East Main Street toward his house. Citizens lined the roads, cheered for Tidwell, and held signs of support.

There will be a retirement party for Tidwell at the Buena Vista Community Center at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 25 as the community celebrates Jimmy Tidwell Day, which was designated by the town earlier this month.
