Two more Chaffee County residents have qualified as candidates for sheriff on the general election ballot. Jon White and Stephen Hall have successfully petitioned to challenge county Sheriff John Spezze, who was first elected in 2014.

Each challenger garnered more than the required 127 signatures by the July 12 deadline. White turned in 243 signatures, of which 201 were accepted. Hall turned in 203 signatures, of which 159 were accepted.

Unaffiliated candidates who plan to petition to get onto the general election ballot were allowed to begin collecting signatures on May 17. Chaffee County Clerk Lori Mitchell’s office released official results on Wednesday, July 18, after reviewing the petitions to declare the result sufficient.
