Salida is gearing up for a summer of outdoor events, that traditionally kicks off on Memorial Day weekend. This weekend is packed with outdoor music events for the whole family to enjoy.

SunFest Youth Music Festival

Following last year’s hiatus due to COVID-19, the seventh annual free, SunFest Youth Music Festival is back for a two-day festival, May 27 and May 28 in Riverside Park in Salida.

This will be the first concert of the 2021 summer season in the Rotary Amphitheater, and it celebrates the beginning of the school summer break. From 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on May 27 the event showcased nine Rok Skool bands. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28 three marimba bands, two drum groups, and an African Dance troupe will be featured.

The Salida Circus is on hand both days to amaze the whole family. Pfizer vaccines will be offered at the festival by Chaffee County Public Health for those 16 years and older.

Both events will be held at Riverside park utilizing the Amphitheater. Image by Brooke Gilmore.

Bluegrass on the Arkansas

On May 29 and 30 The Rotary Club of Salida plans to host their annual Bluegrass on the Arkansas event in Riverside Park. The event is free and has been enjoyed by the community for the past 16 years.

As with previous year’s events, Rotary is requesting donations. Profits from the event are returned to our community in the form of youth scholarships awarded annually and to many local nonprofits. Bluegrass on the Arkansas is a fundraiser for the Salida Rotary Charitable Fund.

The Rotary chapter says it plans to serve hamburgers and brats along with a selection of wine, beer and soda, in addition to the music. Games will be available for kids. Current COVID-19 health guidelines will be followed.
