An announcement from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office came this morning, March 11, announcing that they have identified the body that was found by a passing motorist on the Avalanche Trailhead on Thursday, March 5.
The male was identified by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office in the press release as Christopher D. Hoherd, age 43, from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“Investigators from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Chaffee County Coroner’s Office and Colorado Bureau of Investigation all responded and an investigation ensued,” said the press release from The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.
The press release continued, “On March 9, 2020 an autopsy was completed and pathologists from El Paso County determined that the injuries sustained by the male were self-inflicted, consequently the Chaffee County Coroner’s Office determined that the male’s cause of death was by manner of suicide.”
