A most recent press release from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s office has confirmed the name and status of the man shot on the evening of Monday, Aug. 5.

The press release stated that “Personnel from both the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Salida Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found one male, Vincent Stephen, 37, suffering from gunshot wounds. Chaffee County EMS transported Stephen to HRRMC” where he was pronounced dead.

In addition, both the Salida Police Department and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene. The press release says: “Personnel from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office secured the scene and CBI [Colorado Bureau of Investigation] was requested for assistance.” Following the investigation, the case will be forwarded on to the District Attorney’s Office.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s office also stated that “[A] person was taken into custody as being involved in the shooting. However, the circumstances that led to the shooting are still under investigation. The scene of the shooting continues to be secured by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.”
