Pointing to a continuing need in rural areas, the United States Post Office (USPS) will host yet another job fair from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow – April 20 in Buena Vista. The Buena Vista Post Office is located at 110 Brookdale Ave. 81211.
The latest fair follows one previously reported by Ark Valley Voice that was held in mid-February.
The Post Office notes that a variety of jobs are available but the need is especially critical for:
- Letter carriers
- Clerks
- Labor Custodians
Starting pay varies depending on the job. Starting pay for carriers ranges between $19 and $20 per hour, paid bi-weekly. USPS human resource staff will be on hand to explain benefits and help with the application process. According to USPS, laptops will be available on the day of the event for immediate application submission and they suggest that bringing your own device will speed up this process.
Applicants must be 18 years old — in some instances, interested candidates can also be 16 with a high school diploma/GED— available to work weekends and holidays, and be able to pass drug screening and a criminal background investigation. Applicants may also submit online at www.usps.com/careers.
For additional information regarding job duties, responsibilities, and requirements, applicants can go to the USPS website.
A search of the USPS career site today indicates that there are also three openings in the Salida Post Office. Two are for rural carriers and one for a City Carrier Assistant. No openings were found for either Poncha Springs or Nathrop, although the Post Office urges “Job postings are updated frequently, so check back often for additional opportunities. ”
A conversation with the Nathrop Post Office this morning confirmed that the Nathrop Post Office now has a full-time postmaster and its computer modem has [finally] been replaced, returning its phone service and ability to accept credit cards.
