Call for Entries for Valley Vision Art Exhibition

Valley Visions, an annual art exhibition hosted by Salida Council for the Arts, is returning this year after cancellation last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is held at the Salida SteamPlant, 220 West Sackett Avenue. Celebrated as a showcase for the Arkansas River Valley’s top established and emerging creative talent, the exhibit features up to 60 of the area’s most innovative painters, sculptors, photographers, and artisans. All artwork will be available for purchase.

The show will run from October 15 through October 17; held for the first time in the SteamPlant Ballroom. The show will be up for one weekend only. There will be an opening reception at 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 15. The schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 5:00 p.m. Celebrate with the artists at an opening reception. Food trucks and cash bar available. Silent Auction for two community scarves begins.
  • 7:00 p.m. Mel Strawn Lifetime Achievement Award Presentation: SteamPlant Theater.
  • 9:00 p.m.  Reception closes

The show closes at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

​Guidelines for entry are the following:

  •  Open to all greater Salida area (within a 40 mile radius) visual artists, photographers, artisans, and sculptors.
  •  First 60 entries received will be admitted; one entry per person.
  •  Entry must be new work not exhibited locally within 2 years; all entries will be for sale.
  •  Size limits: hanging piece must not exceed 576 square inches including frame; sculpture must not exceed a maximum 24 inches x 24 inches (576 square inches) display footprint or 40 pounds in weight. No exceptions.
  •  Weight limit: hanging piece 20 lbs.; sculpture 40 lbs. No exceptions.
  •  Artwork on paper must be mounted under glass, sealant or other protective covering.
  •  Wire picture hangers only, no sawtooth or loop.
  •  Sculptors please bring your own display stand, not to exceed a 24 x 24 (576 square inches) display footprint.
  •  Entries not meeting stated guidelines will be disqualified.
  •  Show and winners will be heavily publicized locally and throughout the region.
  •  Local art experts will judge the show before it opens to the public, first to third place awards being given.
  •  One “People’s Choice” Award voted by show patrons will be announced at the reception.
  •  80 percent of sale proceeds go to artist; 20 percent given to benefit the SteamPlant.
