Chaffee County winemaker Vino Salida reopens later today after some cleanup days following a fire scare.  So the valley’s winetasting patio with its sweeping scenic view of the Sawatch Range will not miss this Memorial Day weekend.

Vino Salida will be open on the patio from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. from May 28 to May 30. Musician Dave Tipton will perform on Friday and Joan Lobeck on Saturday. They will be offering wine flights, wine by the glass or bottle, their regular appetizer menu, and bottles of wine to go.

Early in the morning of May 18, after arriving at Vino Salida Wine Cellars in Poncha Springs to prepare for a bottling, winemaker Steve Flynn opened the door to find the cellar full of smoke. He reacted quickly and called the Chaffee Fire Protection District which put out the fire by 6:30 a.m.

No one was injured and Vino Salida believes the wine was also unharmed. The Vino Salida team says they are grateful that the damages were not worse.

They are currently working with a restoration company to help reopen the winery as quickly as possible. The smoke damage may end up being the more significant part of their cleanup and they believe the most important part since they focus on the sensory experience for their guests.

Repairs in the tasting room remain underway. The team says that the community is the heart of their mission, and they look forward to inviting everyone back into the tasting room soon.
