The Central Colorado Unmanned Arial Systems (UAS) 2022 Fall Roundup has been set for September 11-12, 2022. The focus this year is “Beyond Visual Line Of Sight (BVLOS) operations. The industry is rapidly maturing and the use of UAS, otherwise known as drones (an airborne craft piloted by someone on the ground), includes business, public safety, military and recreational uses.

“This is an exciting industry to be involved in right now,” notes CCUAS President Taylor Albrecht.

Local residents can expect to see dozens of drones flying through the skies this fall as drone enthusiasts descend on the area to participate in the 10th UAS Roundup, hosted by the Central Colorado UAS organization.

The two-day UAS Fall Roundup begins on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Buena Vista Drone Training Park. Several leading companies in this space will conduct demonstrations of the latest technology and be available to answer questions.

Dozens of passionate drone pilots are expected to bring their aircraft and test their skills at several of the park’s proficiency zones. –The Drone Training Park, built in conjunction with the Town of Buena Vista, is the first of its kind in the county.

The next day, Sept. 12, the conference moves to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Conference Center, where the day-long agenda at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort in Nathrop will focus on “Beyond Visual Line of Sight,” or BVLOS which is an increasingly key topic in the drone world. It includes four topic  panels to facilitate discussion and exploration about Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS):

  • Specialized equipment and training
  • Extreme BVLOS
  • BVLOS Leadership
  • Search and Rescue (SAR) & BVLOS

Several national companies are pursuing BVLOS technologies for such purposes as remote deliveries of medical, commercial, and personal supplies to people in both rural areas and cities. Currently, pilots must keep their aircraft within their line of sight, or an observer’s line of sight, but many circumstances do not afford that opportunity.

Several panel discussions throughout the day will examine critical considerations such as training, risk management, and equipment for flying beyond the visual line of sight as well as applications such as search and rescue.

Preregistration for the event is recommended because of limited space. Information on lodging and the conference can be found at the organization’s website: www.uasroundup.com.
