Valley Visions is an annual exhibition hosted by the Salida Council for the Arts (SCFTA). The event showcases the Arkansas River Valley’s top talents of both established and newly emerging artists. The exhibit will feature up to seventy of the valley’s innovative painters, sculptors, photographers, and artisans.

Entries will be categorized and judged by an expert. First, second, and third-place awards will be given in each category. A single “People’s Choice” award will be decided by show patrons and announced at the reception.

There will be a silent auction and the displayed works will be available for purchase with 70 percent of the proceeds going to the artist, 20 percent to the SteamPlant, and 10 percent to the SCFTA.

A special show by the top student artists of Salida school is also planned.

Interested participants can submit a work of art for entry online at SalidaCouncilForTheArts.org. There is a $30 fee to apply.

Guidelines include:

  • Applicants must be an artist (visual artist, photographer, artisan, fine art jeweler, or sculptor) living within a 40 mile radius of Salida.
  • Only the first seventy entries will be accepted.
  • There is a limit of one entry per person.
  • Hanging pieces must not exceed a maximum width of 24 inches or a maximum weight of 20 pounds.
  • Sculptures must not exceed a maximum display footprint of 24 inches by 24 inches (576 square inches) or a maximum weight of 40 pounds.
  • Artwork on paper must be mounted under glass, sealant, or other protective covering.
  • Only wire picture hangers are allowed (no sawtooth or loop). Pieces will be turned away without proper hanging equipment.
  • Participants are allowed to provide their own sculpture pedestal. Pedestals will be provided if artists do not bring their own.
  • The name of the artist and title should be on the back of the piece to identify it.

Entries will be disqualified if they do not meet the guidelines. It is also recommended, but not required, that the artwork is insured.
