Mark your calendars for October 19. Ark Valley Voice (AVV) and its nonprofit parent Truth Has a Voice Foundation will host a Chaffee County Candidate Forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19 in the Salida City Council Chambers in the Touber Building, located at 448 East First Street.

The 90-minute forum will be conducted in person, and broadcast via Zoom and YouTube.

The Forum will be conducted by AVV Publisher/Managing Editor Jan Wondra and Senior Reporter and Editorial board Member Dan Smith. The format will include both questions from AVV, as well as questions submitted by the audience.

Invited to participate are those candidates who have qualified for the November 8 Chaffee County General Election who are facing competitive elections. While not all of them have confirmed their participation, the candidates include:

District 3 County Commissioner Candidates —

Brandon Becker (Republican)

PT Wood (Democrat)

Adrian Kuhn (unaffiliated)

County Clerk and Recorder  Candidates —

Lori Mitchell (incumbent Democrat)

Elaine Allemang (a registered Republican who is running as a write-in  candidate )

In the County Clerk and Recorder race, the Chaffee Republican Committee made a point of saying it was not running a Republican opponent to Mitchell because in their view, Mitchell has done a good job.

Other county candidates are running unopposed. Ark Valley Voice will be covering the positions of these county candidates — for Chaffee County Sheriff, County Coroner, County Assessor, and County Treasurer —  via news stories over the next few weeks.

It is expected that Colorado mail ballots will be delivered to the Regional Postal Processing Center beginning around October 17, for mailing to all registered voters.

If you haven’t already, go to the AVV Survey in the upper right corner of this page and complete the poll where we ask our readers: “What issues do readers want the Chaffee BoCC candidates to address?” We’ll be referring to these results representing your priorities as we develop our candidate questions for this forum.
