The Buena Vista Board of Trustees (BOT) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24 in the Piñon Room of the Buena Vista Community Center (715 East Main Street). The meeting will include a public hearing on the 2024 budget and a discussion of a potential ballot question on the April 2, 2024 ballot to change the date of the municipal elections from April to November.

The first public hearing for the 2024 budget is on the schedule to hear and discuss budget requests.

The discussion of creating a ballot measure to change the town’s election cycle from April to November has been brought up in a past meeting and is now officially on the schedule. The ballot question would include the timing change to November of even-numbered years and modify terms to allow for the transition.

The change is intended to reduce confusion by aligning town elections with other local elections. This alignment will allow coordination with the Chaffee County Clerk. The BOT requested this topic be placed on a future agenda at their September 12 meeting.

Other business items the board will consider include:

  • A resolution to appoint Nichol McCoy to the Chaffee County Multijurisdictional Housing Authority, as well as considering appointing an alternate member to the Chaffee Housing Authority (CHA) Board of Directors.
    • The BOT will also consider endorsing a letter of support for a CHA grant application under Proposition 123, for a nearby affordable housing development.
  • A request from Shining Mountains Montessori School (SMMS) for a fence extension and playground expansion on the leased area at St. Rose of Lima Church
  • A resolution to approve a funding agreement and addendum to the affordability covenants for Carbonate Street. This would give the town a $1.65 million discount on a future option to purchase the project.

The regular meeting is preceded by a work session at 6:00 p.m. for advisory board presentations concerning the 2024 budget. The board will not make decisions during the work session.

Staff reports at Tuesday’s meeting will be delivered by the town administrator, treasurer, recreation director, and airport manager.

The consent agenda includes minutes from the BOT’s October 10 meeting, the town clerk report, and resolutions to appoint Mallory Brooks as a voting member of the Trails Advisory Board and Elizabeth Daigle as a voting member of the Water Advisory Board.

The full agenda and informational packet for the October 24 meeting is available online at the Town of Buena Vista’s website.
