The Buena Vista Public Library has scheduled a number of events for all ages this month, including their Artist’s Palette program and the Library Olympics. More information about all events can be found on the library’s website and calendar. Due to staffing concerns with current COVID case rates, some library events, including Coding Club and Fly-Tying, have been postponed and will be hosted virtually when they become possible.  

Youth Programs

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black military aviators in the U.S. armed forces. Learn their struggles and triumphs, as well as the history of race in the military through this fascinating lecture from Active Minds.

Arms control, Russian interference in U.S. elections and support of cyberattacks, the status of Ukraine, the fate of opposition politicians in Russia, all continue to be concerning. How will the new administration in Washington approach these issues?

Library Olympics

Select a task and connect them with each of the continents. After completing five global tasks, participants will be entered to win an Olympic-themed puzzle. Beginning Friday, February 4, participants can pick up an Olympic entry form from the Library (or print one on their own from the library’s website). Completed forms are due by Monday, February 21. One winner will be chosen from each of the three categories: youth, teen, and adult.

Within Our Range Book Study

Book: Trees and Other Witnesses, by Kathy Taylor
Read and gather together to discuss and reflect on books connected to the natural environment. “Within Our Range,” a collaboration between the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association and the Buena Vista and Salida Public Libraries meets quarterly to study literature related to our relationship with the Earth.
