Chaffee County Public Health Agency Order #2020-08-Amendment 21, the next Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) Order related to COVID-19, formally goes into effect today, Friday, June 11. The amendment includes increasing indoor event capacity to seventy-five percent of the venue capacity, increasing outdoor event capacity to five thousand (5,000) attendees, and pointing out that even event planners who do not have to submit a special event permit application are encouraged to use the event toolkit as a resource.

Changes to the order were made following this week’s Chaffee County Board of Heath special meeting where it was voted to increase the capacities to be more aligned with current favorable COVID-19 conditions.

The Board of Health, which is comprised of the Board of County Commissioners, will be responsible for reviewing an additional COVID-19 safety plan that is incorporated into the regular county special event permit application. CCPH will continue promoting the event toolkit to help support event planners and will update it when appropriate.

“The summer event season is underway, and although it is important that we all continue to follow the Chaffee County COVID-19 Code of Conduct to keep people healthy, increasing capacities does not appear to have an impact on public health if safety plans are in place and followed,” said Director of Chaffee County Public Health Andrea Carlstrom.

“County leadership stakeholders continue to emphasize that this year’s event planners take into consideration the resources and energies that go into event planning, the impact that events have on our local first responders and other frontline workers required to work at them, and the value that the event brings to our local communities. We are excited that this summer is shaping up to feel more normal than last summer” said Andrea Carlstrom, Director of Chaffee County Public Health.

The Chaffee County COVID-19 Code of Conduct states that in Chaffee County, we:

  • Get vaccinated
  • Stay home if sick
  • Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
  • Wash our hands
  • Respect the COVID-19 safety protocols of any business or organization
  • Physically distance if unvaccinated
  • Wear a mask indoors and in crowded outdoors places if unvaccinated

Carlstrom points out that CCPH will be at a wide variety of venues and events this summer to provide easy access to free COVID-19 vaccinations. Also, a vaccine bus hosted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will be making its way throughout the county starting next week.

Regular COVID-19 vaccination clinics are scheduled throughout the week at the main CCPH office, by appointment only. Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna are all available. Incentives for those who have previously gotten fully vaccinated as well as those who are newly vaccinated are increasingly becoming available due to the generosity of state and local entities.
