Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) has announced they will be presenting a workshop on emergency preparedness and go-kit distribution from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 14 at A Church in Salida. The event comes in response to to high demand after a sold-out event at the Salida library in March.

This event is open to all ages. An RSVP is required.

The workshop will be presented by CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator Sophia Gibb and CCPH Director Andrea Carlstrom.

Interested participants looking for more information or to reserve their place at the workshop, should contact Sophia Gibb at SGibb@ChaffeeCounty.org or text or call 719-207-6563. Space is limited to the first 30 people.

“Chaffee County Public Health is excited to be able to offer this presentation again, due to the high demand we had for the initial presentation. It is crucial that every household has a go-kit ready in case of emergency. We hope that all Chaffee County residents who are interested in what to do and what to bring during an emergency will register to attend. Free go-kits will be available for those who register for the event,” said Gibb.

The go-kits include essential items and supplies that can be easily grabbed during an emergency. These supplies include flashlights, water bottles, and first aid kits. Community members should put all supplies in a backpack or “Go-Bag,” which can be easily accessed in case of an emergency, such as a wildfire.

There will also be information presented on evacuation checklists, insurance coverage, preparing pets for disaster, and more.
