The Chaffee County Democrats have set a full schedule for the first quarter of 2024, including the introduction of Democrat candidates for the Chaffee Board of County Commissioners, a fundraising event featuring three state-level Democrats, and the March caucuses.

The Chaffee Democrat’s Thursday, January 25 meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Community Meeting Room in Buena Vista. The meeting will introduce the two Democratic candidates for Chaffee County Commissioner.

“Both Keith Baker and Greg Felt will end their terms this year and we are excited to introduce candidates that will join P.T. Wood and continue the progressive work of Greg and Keith,” reads the announcement.

In addition, the Chaffee County League of Women Voters will be on hand to discuss Ballot Measure 89. If the petition is successful the measure will be placed on the ballot, and if voters approve it, the right to an abortion will be in the Colorado Constitution so that, in the future, this right will not be spirited away by conservative legislators. The measure would also assure that state and local public employees and Medicaid recipients are covered for abortion in their health insurance plans. Petition gatherers will be on hand to obtain signatures.

Democratic Caucus Set for March 9

During the caucus event attendees will formally nominate the party’s County Commissioner candidates.

With a busy election year ahead, the Chaffee Democrats are asking for help from the “quiet democrats” and independents who want to experience up close how the democratic process works.
