Chaffee County Public Health Aging Well Coordinator and Health Navigator Molly Bischoff attended Buena Vista’s Community Coffee meeting on Wednesday, September 6 to outline upcoming events and opportunities from Embracing Aging Chaffee County.

Aging Well Expo Adventures in Aging

From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8 the Aging Well Expo: Adventures in Aging will be at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds (10165 CR 120, Poncha Springs). The expo will feature over forty booths with various activities for attendees, such as line dancing, yoga, pickleball, e-bikes, crafts, and more.

A complimentary brain-healthy lunch will be provided courtesy of local favorite, Kalamatapit Catering. There will also be free ice cream.

The Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) clinical team will be available to administer vaccinations. These will include Influenza (if available), Pneumonia, Shingles, and Tdap while supplies last. Information will be provided on emergency preparedness, with “Go-bags” given away while supplies last. A1C testing and education will be available on a first come first serve basis for attendees.

Higher U at CMC

The educational component of the Aging Expo is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday, September 18 at the Kesner Building (349 East 9th Street). Embracing Aging Chaffee is partnering with Colorado Mountain College (CMC) to provide classes throughout the day at the Salida campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

There will be seven rooms with classes taking place all day. Sessions include:

  • Medicare 101
  • Advanced Directive Planning
  • Local Geology
  • Eating for Bone Health
  • The Magic in Labyrinths
  • Caring for the Caregiver
  • Financial Planning
  • CMC’s Anatomy Table Tour
  • and More
