Saturday, September 16 is the Salida Airport’s Air Show at Harriet Alexander Airport. Plan to come early: The gates open at 7:00 a.m. Arriving early also means that you’ll be there to see some of the planes coming in for an early landing.

The show will feature several aerobatic demonstrations including Bob Freeman in his amazing Extra 300LX, Alan Cook in his military T-6 Texan, and Chris Murphy with a high-energy display in a homebuilt RV4.

Salida’s Harriet Alexander Airport is located at 9255 County Rd. 140. Admission to the air show is FREE and the pancake breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m. (Pancake breakfast- $7 adults, $4 kids under 12).

The best action will be between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and things wind down by 2:00 p.m., so get there early.

The high-energy aerobatic flying will feature skydivers and numerous World War II planes including a P-51 Mustang that competed in the Reno air races, an SNB-5, Bird Dog, T-6, and others. Among the days’ special events: the Mile Hi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force will be here with their WWII plane, an SNB-5 and they will be selling rides for $99 for a 20-minute scenic flight of our gorgeous valley.

Formation flights will be conducted by military jets including a French Fouga.  Not to be left out of the exhibition will be helicopters, gyroplanes, drones, and much more.

There will also be drawings for free plane rides. But if you don’t win the drawing, you can still purchase a ticket to have a scenic flight of the valley in a historic WWII SN-B5.  Also on hand will be military and private jets, helicopters, gyroplanes, and drones.

“Kids” of all ages who love to see planes fly  — No matter if you’re three, thirty-three, or ninety-three — will find something to watch at the 2023 Salida Air Show.
