Local nursing and rehabilitation center Columbine Manor Care Center named Macey Buker its new executive director. Buker began leading the center in October. The Center is located at 550 West 16th Street in Salida. It is one of twenty-two skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Colorado managed by Life Care Centers of America.

With a doctorate in health care administration, Buker has spent the last ten years training future administrators and overseeing health management programs as a professor (most recently at the University of Minnesota Crookston). He decided to return to administration work about a year ago

“I have a passion for developing relationships in order to provide positive experiences,” said Buker of his administrative position. “There is so much to learn from everyone. I truly enjoy spending time on the floor and learning about the story that each has to tell. I like to use this information to improve situations and remove barriers related to quality care and quality of life.”

Buker was referred to Life Care by a good friend and is excited to be closer to family in eastern Utah. When asked about his experience at the center so far, he praised the staff and residents.

“The team has been amazing, We have so many dedicated staff members that are here because of a passion for resident care. Each one works hard to provide the best experience possible for our residents,” said Buker. “There is such a broad range of experiences and knowledge that each can share to help our staff grow and contribute to the community in a positive way. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone better.”

Buker cited as some of his goals increasing the center’s community engagement and experience and improving residents’ experience by providing more personalized care.

He also expressed enthusiasm about the future. “I am very excited about the opportunities in Salida. We are well-positioned to be a significant contributor to the community as it grows and evolves. I envision events and activities that will add value to the community and allow our residents and staff to give back to a place that they love so much.”

Life Care is a nationwide health care company that was founded in 1976. Headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee, Life Care manages nearly 200 skilled nursing, post-acute, and Alzheimer’s centers in twenty-seven states.
