The Great BV Duck Race is set to return at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2 on Cottonwood Creek in McPhelemy Park. The public is invited to come cheer on the ducks or adopt one of their own from the remaining stock. The limited number of ducks are available for adoption online.

The Duck Race was rescheduled from its original date on the Fourth of July due to concerns over safety with the kids and the creek. Due to changing water currents, the Chamber decided it would be safest to reschedule it from the earlier date. Purchased ducks for July’s race will be honored.
The Duck Race is not the only event in the park on September 2:
7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
All you can eat Optimist Pancake Breakfast in the park, which is open to the public.
9:00 a.m. to Noon
Kids Fishing Derby sponsored by the Collegiate Peaks Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the BV Optimist Club, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
Registration for the derby begins at 9:30 a.m. with fishing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Winners will be announced at 11:15 a.m.

The Optimist Buena Vista Club will provide a hot dog lunch and sodas. Prizes will be awarded for the first fish caught (under and over seven years old) and the longest fish caught (under and over seven years old).
Contestants will receive a souvenir t-shirt. Free fishing equipment is available to participants without their own gear, but contestants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, water, and sunscreen.
During the event, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, adults accompanying derby contestants are exempt from the requirement to possess a valid fishing license for their children to participate. If anyone 16 or older chooses to fish, they must have a valid Colorado fishing license.
