On Saturday, June 3, a much-anticipated celebration will be held at McPhelemy Park to dedicate the new Legacy Stage. The event featuring musical entertainment and dramatic acts is free to the community and the BV Chamber of Commerce is encouraging children and adults of all ages to bring blankets, chairs, picnic baskets, and smiles for a fun community gathering.

The stage dedication day is hosted by the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Town of Buena Vista, the Buena Vista Public Library, and Buena Vista Event Co-Op.

In an official press release from the BV Chamber of Commerce, Director Heather Rupska explained the reason behind the stage name. “The name of the stage was chosen to highlight the legacy that the Tom and Colleen Rollings family, along with this entire community, is leaving for generations to come.”

The Buena Vista Library will open the program at 10:00 a.m. with their Summer Reading Kick-Off. An effusive stage dedication will follow at 12:00 noon.

After the stage dedication, members of the Buena Vista community will perform a variety of entertainment acts until 8:00 p.m. that evening. All entertainers and acts are donating their time for the celebration.

Attendees will also get to glimpse the beautiful Legacy Brick patio located 10-15 feet in front of the Legacy Stage.

Rupska, who began her tenure as Director of the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce in March 2022, managed to raise more than $40,000 in Legacy Brick donations for the patio in only a few short months last summer. For Rupska, the project was more than just a fundraiser.

“It’s emotional when you go and read the bricks,”  says Rupska, who adds that many are memorials.

Local watering holes Deerhammer Distillery and Eddyline Brewery will be providing adult beverages for the event. A community reminder; you must be 21 and older to purchase alcohol.

Like the new Legacy Stage, this celebration is meant to bring the BV community closer together. “This stage is for our community and the legacy we leave,” said BV Chamber Office Administrator Maggie Huyck.

Huyck has worked tirelessly to organize and include all of the community members who wanted to be a part of the June 3rd community party. For Huyck and so many others involved in this project, the McPhelemy Stage has been a labor of love.

“This event is the culmination of a lot of love, commitment, and hard work. We are grateful for so many friends and partners that saw the Rollings’ vision and partnered with us to make this dream a reality,” explained Rupska in the official press release.
