Where are the remaining Buena Vista ballots, ask some BV residents

Over the past couple of days, Ark Valley Voice has been alerted that several Buena Vista registered voters are reporting that they have not received their mail ballots. While yesterday some of those waiting for ballots received them (literally hand-delivered), others may still be without their mail ballots to vote.

“Voters who have not received a ballot, they need to take action,” said Chaffee Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell. “They can visit GoVoteColorado.gov to check their registration and ballot status, or they can contact our office, 719-530-5604.

Voters who need a replacement ballot should bring identification, and visit one of these options:

  • Visit the Salida Vote Center at the Legion Hut, 10th and H Streets between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Election Day 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • The BV Vote Center at the BV Community Center opens Monday, Nov 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Voters can also come to the Election Office at 104 Crestone Ave, Salida to pick up a mail ballot. Hours are Monday to Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“Our records show over 99.5 percent of ballots for every Chaffee County zip code have been delivered,” added Mitchell. “Ballots that we just sent out yesterday haven’t made it to homes yet and make up the balance. If voters haven’t received their ballot, they need to contact us. There is plenty of time to vote and plenty of options.”

In a call with Ark Valley Voice, Mitchell said that the county’s tracking documents show that the BV ballots were delivered before the Salida ballots were.

“Anybody who hasn’t gotten their ballot, there is time to take action and plenty of options,” added Mitchell.” At this point, they can vote a mail ballot but they have to drop it off, because it’s too late to mail it. Or you can vote in person.
